Default Glipizide - FBG test

I have my FBG test tomorrow, and I have kind of an oddball question. We usually eat later (like around 7-8 p.m.) because of DH's work hours. So I take my glipizide around 6:30-7:30 p.m. before I eat.

I started thinking about it and was wondering if the glipizide will still be in my system when I have the test at 8 a.m.? Do they check for that? Would that invalidate the test? I don't want to have to do the test twice because I'm needle phobic. lol

P.S. - just thought of this, BTW, or I would have called the lab to find out, but they're closed now.

I don't know about your lab but mine wants fasting for 12 hours and that includes the drugs I take with meals. So, you might want to eat about 6 p.m. to be sure to be finished by 7:30 or 8 p.m. unless your lab is especially efficient and takesyou on time exactly.

Thanks JT. My lab requires an eight-hour fast. They didn't mention not taking any meds with meals the night before, only not to take any diabetes meds the morning of the test. So...we ate around 7 and I took my glipizide around 6:30. I'm hoping I'm in the safe zone. I guess I'll just have to see. Thanks again.

Get yourself a meter and do a fasting every day.
Read Bloodsugar 101 and find out about something better than gliipizide.

For a diabetic screening an 8 hour fast is enough. The 12 hours is asked when you want to check your lipids. Your medication should not interfere with the result.

mbuster- I do have a meter and check my fasting sugars in the morning. I was originally prescribed Metformin, but it caused gastrointestinal side effects. I have since been told on this forum that Metformin XR is much easier on the GI system. I see my doctor on Friday and will ask her about the extended release form of Metformin. Thanks.
