I believe my phase 2 insulin response has just packed in the act, maybe 3-4 weeks ago, quite suddenly. Ok sorry I am going to be longwinded but I value your input.
Up til then my 11 units of Lantus at night was giving good am control and my 2 x 100mg metformin plus LCHF was giving me good post meal control.
Pretty suddenly my sugars are staying where they are after 1 hour, be that a good reading or not, for 3 or 4 hours meaning I go into the next meal higher that previously would be the case and so the cycle continues. Also even a meal or for example, meat or fish, green beans cabbage and brussels sprouts will now show a spike at 2 hours when previously I would not have had this. Not a big spike I agree but enough to take me to 7.9 or even (shock horror) over 8 if I have a reasonable size portion and more importantly, there I stay.
Other things that are happening are, exercise now puts up my blood sugar by around 2 points (on the scale we use here not the one used in USA) Would that be around 36 on USA figures? Also if I mess up what would have taken a day to bring under control now can take 3 - 4 days. I have also lost 3 kilos in around 7 weeks, not needed nor wanted nor tried for.
Seems to me I need to start bolus insulin if I am to keep acceptable (to me) numbers. There's another point. For a while now I have suspected I am type 1.5 (LADA). I think this because of the rapid onset of diabetes. Went from normal to diabletic in 3-4 months with no "pre diabetes" or impaired GT to tell me to be careful. Each step down the path eg. needing to start Met. and starting Lantus has been sudden, as has this latest change. In five years of complying with weight loss, haven't needed to lose any more for 3 years and careful control of sugars I now find myself looking at Bolus Insulin. As long as I had good control I wasn't too worried about the diag. of type 2 or LADA.
I see my Doc for my careplan appointment in 1 week and plan to ask to see an endo. I don't think she will have a problem with it but if she does....well I still think I need to see an endo.
Just setting that down in writing has helped me to sort my thoughts into somekind of logical order and your opinions will be most appreciated.
