Default Portable mini insulin fridge

I am planning on travelling for a few months without access to a fridge (especially in Africa). Does anyone own a portable insulin fridge? I can't find them anywhere in Australia so I think I would need to order it online. It seems like such a great idea and I don't know why they aren't readily available.

Two brands I am aware of are the Dison and Medicool. Cost is no issue for me, I just need something that will work. It will have to have an external battery that can recharge.

Wholesale Dison Insulin Cooler Box, with Large LCD display and rechargeable battery, $174.4-218.0/Piece | DHgate

Thanks

I am not sure if Amazon delivers to Australia or how many products are available in that area, but you also may want to use the search term "insulin fridge" on their site for Australia. They usually have a slew of diabetic products.

I'm really not having much luck. It seems you can only buy these from China...I just found out that they don't sell Novorapid and Levemir in the countries I'm visiting and they probably wouldn't accept Australian scripts...

I think I have to cancel my whole trip and lose quite a bit of money.

Nooo - there must be an answer. That's just wrong to have to cancel your trip! What do other Australian T1s do? The Australian Diabetic Whatever couldn't help? Embassies? Travel organizations?

If you know your route, why can't you make plans now to have insulin available and ready for pickup at the hospital where you'll be travelling by? I would get a hold of medical centers now, in the areas you know you'll be going through. They've got to be able to help you plan resources. They're likely stocked with insulin, I'd imagine. On a side note, did you ask your endo's office their thoughts on what to do?

Before you do have a look at the shopping page at diabetes WA. You can use their site without being a WA member and still get discount if you are a member of NDSS. I am pretty sure I saw a portable insulin coolefridge on there when I was buying insulated pouches for Bali.

Good luck

Thanks Hillary, I had a look and I think it is just something like a frio/cool box. I am going to buy this from eBay...it is coming from China and they will be sending it via DHL so it will be here in 7 days.

The thing is, I don't think I will be going near many medical centres/hospitals. I have googled and know there are a few pharmacies in the areas.

I would definitely try and contact those pharmacies, just to have resources in place if and when needed.

I live here in South Africa and I would not see any problem as long as your route goes through a major centre every few weeks. You could get hold of pharmacies in that centre and have them hold stock for you no problem.
Enjoy the trip.
