Lots of people keep telling me to but actually I am scared of wearing one. The simple one will just say diabetic - what are they going to do with that? Put you on a glucose drip and throw in lots of insulin. Scary. There is a much nicer one that was being talked about on here where you can put a lot more information. You could put your diet, Meds, treatment, doc, family etc all in. That might work.
Would like hear from some more people on here.

This is where I got mine http://www.medicalert.org/products/medical-ids

I customized mine. It says I am Type 1 diabetic. Use Insulin and have a pump. Has my name on it. Mine is a bracelet. My mom used to pin hers to her bra.

The standard stainless steel ones are very cheap but sometimes you have to look around for them. I haven't bought one for years but they were only about $5.

I think they are important if you are on insulin. If you are found unconscious it gives the ambulance crew a quick start on the case. I always wear mine, but then I also make sure that people I'm working or living with know that I'm a diabetic.

I have seen more expensive ones done up like a bit of jewelry, and a gag one that said 'delete my browsing history' on the other side.

I've been thinking about getting a medical ID but I am not really into jewelry but the idea of an anklet is interesting. Thanks for the idea

I bought a unengraved bracelet (with medical emblem on it) from a local jewellery shop, took it to the engraver nearby. On the outside is my name and diabetes, on the other side is my husband's name, and mobile and home phone no. I got it when I was on insulin, I'm no longer on insulin but I still wear as it's a nice piece of jewellery and if I were to have an accident it has contact details.

I was reading Dr Bernstein today and he mentioned this site, which I'd forgotten about, medicalert.org. I checked out the prices and even the stainless steel starts off at $45, but that seems to include engraving.

That wouldn't be in Roe's or my price range, but might be useful to some of the others here. This is the page for the stainless steel ones. (There are also silver and gold options.)

Stainless Steel Medical ID Bracelet | MedicAlert Foundation

And this is the normal start page of the site. MedicAlert Services | MedicAlert Foundation
