Default Low blood sugar

Had a 50 a little bit ago was just thinking... what's the worst low blood sugar you all have ever had and what did it feel like?

I remember when I was living at my parents house it was night time and I woke up in low blood sugar. It was a 27. At that stage in the game there was kind of a euphoria and calmness, but quickly I started to get tunnel vision and it felt like every cell of my body was in pain. I remember feeling very animalisitic as I made my way downstairs to the fridge. The thought crossed my head that if someone asked me if I was ok I woul probably deck them to get to the food faster. It was kinda weird.

Anyone else have any stories?

I used to have lows like that in the 20's and 30's. If I was asleep I would go into convulsions and my wife would have to feed me glucose tablets. When I came out of it I did not remember what had happened. That can eventually produce a coma and someone would have to call an ambulance. A couple of days in the ER might be necessary.

I have experimented and found that one glucose tablet, which contains 4 carbs, will raise my blood glusose (BG) 12 points. That is 4 points per carb. My target is 90. I try to stay as close to 90 as possible. If I dropped to 27 I would need to raise my BG 63 points to reach my target. Since 1 glucose tab raises my BG 12 points I divide 63 by 12 and get approximately 5. I eat 5 glucose tabs and that raises my BG very close to 90. That is how I avoid having very high BG after treating a low. I always keep a supply of glucose tabs by my bed, by my computer and in my car. I also carry a tube of tabs in my pocket when I am away from home. If you do not like the taste of the tabs you can use candy. 1 jelly bean has 1 carb so 4 jelly beans would be equivalent to a glucose tab. I try to avoid candy if I am very low since glucose tabs work very fast and candy adds a lot of calories which might lead to weight gain.

Too high and too low are things I have not really learned about. Basically I have just been working on getting my numbers lower, but nobody schooled me about going too low, or too high for that matter, since I am not on insulin. More questions for my next doctor's appt.

Well your brain works 100% on glucose so when you hit 50 you start killing brain cells. I find once you really get sensitive to your body you can generally feel a 80-75, but if you are very focused on some task or something sometimes you won't know until it hits you in the face...

Low blood sugar symptoms for me are feeling cold, sweeting, getting a little tired, feeling kinda drained. Some times I will feel some vibrations or even shakes throughout my body. If it gets really bad I get a euphoria where things feel ultra clear... That's usually a sign to eat then check my blood sugar =)

High blood sugars can make you depressed, moody, lathargic, thrist, feel kinda stiff, sleep tired instead of drained tired, etc.

It's different from person to person but as you get your numbers more in check you will start to notice the warning signs for yourself.
