Default Need a Answer?

Hi ,
I,m new to the forum and have a question that someone might answer for me.

Diagnosed in 2012 with Type 2 Diabetes.
Since have rearranged my diet and my blood sugars have averaged 5 - 7.
Just recently they have shot up to Av 8.2.

I drink a fair bit of Diet drinks and also have added Praise Non Fat dressings to my salads.
Apart from that nothing of consequence has changed in my diet..

Could the Diet Drinks or/and the non fat dressing be the culprit.

Cheers
Darcy

Most likely the non-fat dressings which are full of sugar.

Hi Darcy

I would check the Praise Non Fat Dressing. Anything NON Fat usually has added sugar to give it flavour. How are the diet drinks sweetened?

Other than that, are you eating Low Carb/High Fat? How many carbs a day are you having?

Thank you both .
Much appreciated.

Re my diet.
75 - 80 % would be Salads and Vegetables with fish and boiled chicken breast.
I was advised by my Doctor to add a small piece of steak 2x weekly for the Iron Content..
Milk for my coffee is nonfat ?? and the coffeee is Decaff.

Would you advise limiting the Milk the Non fat dressing and the Diet drinks.
I havent used cooking oil or sugar for 20 years.
I do use Sugarine tablets.

Thank you so much .I do appreciate it.

I would think you're eating too many carbs. Many here eat low carb high fat and find it does wonders for control.

Try going here for some basic info:
www.dietdoctor.com/lchf
Or here:
www.ketogenic-diet-resource.com

You may see things that go against what you've been told but it does work and is very healthy.

Hi Darcy, welcome to the Forum.

There are some great recipes here for mayo and other salad dressings - don't be put off by the fat content, it's good for you! There are a few, very few, commercial brands for Mayo and Aioli that are full fat but you may not find them in your supermarket.

Instead of milk try some delicious cream in your coffee you will be surprised how good it tastes. I also use unsweetened Almond Milk occasionally.

Australia has great drinking water, have you tried putting a slurp (a little slurp)
of Waterford's diet flavoured mineral water in a glass of water - good stuff. The diet drinks you are currently using are full of chemicals so have a go at weaning yourself off of them.

David has given you two great sites to read, please read them, the info is invaluable.

Ask lots of questions, we are here to support and encourage you.

Cheers

Freya

Thank you.

Do you recall the Pritikin Diet.
One could possibly say that basically my diet is that with a increase in the Protein content.
I have a session with the Diabetes Nurse in 2 weeks so in the meantime will discontinue the dressings, the diet soft drinks and record the BSL more frequently than just in the mornings,
Thank you all for your help.
Cheers
Darcy

Most of us here eat something more akin to the Atkins diet.

Also, I have found that restricting not just carbs but also to some extent protein has helped my control.

Yes, it is different. It took me a couple of months of reading to even give it a try, but it has helped. That was by the way, four and half years ago!
