Glucometer reading all over the place lately....

For the last few days my readings have been in the upper 200's and Im having a hard time figuring out whats going on. I checked my A1C with a home test kit about 2 weeks ago, and it was 6.3, up from 3 months ago of 6.0. But taking my normal insulin dosage that has worked for the foods eaten in the past just doesnt seem to cut it right now.
Example, a Glucerna breakfast bar, 5 units of Humalog would take care of it. Yesterday my fasting was 132, ate the bar and took 6 units. 2 hours later my reading was 275. So now I find myself compensating, and ultimately, over compensating. It may be contributed to my having some sinus and allergy problems, maybe.
My brother, whom is also diabetic, checks his blood once a day. His last A1C was also 6.3. I check my sugars atleast 6 times a day in an attempt to, I guess, micro manage it.
Should I relax more about my readings? Just take it 4 hours after I eat/take shot? And if high then add more humalog?

While I can't speak to the using insulin part, Steve, I can attest that stressing over it can contribute to higher readings. Insult added to injury, isn't it?! :(

Right?!? I hate that my brother is so relaxed about it and has a good A1C, while I am frantic about it and have the same A1C. Im just second guessing my methods. Am I doing my harm than good being so on top of it......and how more good am I doing if my sugars are high at 1 1/2 hours after a meal and taking an extra shot vs. 3 hours after and getting a truer reading...

I know that recently I was having sinus and allergy problems...my bg readings were everywhere too. My boluses weren't covering like they usually do. I just would give myself a correction bolus if I was still high after 2 hours. This lasted a couple of days then I was back to normal *shrug* I can only assume it was the allergy and sinus issues I was having.
