Hi Jenny, welcome to the forum. As you start getting a grasp on the changes most of us here had to make to control BG (which should be your #1 priority) you can start expanding your learnings. Google Dr. Peter Attia's blogs at the Eatingacademy, to get more info on LCHF diet and exercise. He explains very well performance on a ketogenic diet. Carbs as eaten now for endurance activities are really no benefits. As a runner, you may have improvements over distances but not sprints. Not just talking theory here, he practices what he preaches, and a lot of info is his first hand experience.

Hi Jenny, welcome to the forum. I agree with mbuster, Dr. Peter Attia's blog is a great source for information, especially for anyone who is athletic. As mbuster said he practices what he preaches. It is great reading for anyone that has questions about lchf. The link is :

Hope this helps and please ask questions any time.

I am definitely going to lower the carb intake even more and up the fat intake. I've just started eating almonds, so I try to keep those around for a quick snack. I'll also try logging my food to really see what I've been eating. Thank you for all the great advice and support, hopefully my fasting numbers will get away from their upward trend of the last couple of months.

Good decision, Jenny; almonds were my go-to food also. Non-perishable & portable! Do keep us posted . . . it's great having you with us.

Just be aware as you start to change your diet, your body will start feeling weak. It is called Atkins flu and upping your salt intake or drinking some boullione or broth or anything with a higher sodium content should help. Even without that, it will abate itself soon so stick with it through the flu like feelings.

My "Atkins flu" lasted about 2 weeks, but I failed to add more salt (or fat, for that matter), and the amount of carbs I was consuming "normally" was out-of-control by even SAD standards. But once past it, all kinds of things began to "normalize" for me.
