Default A1C Champions?

Okay Folks,

I'm in my third YMCA diabetes class. Today we have a A1C champion giving a presentation. I've never heard of this position. She said that she's the only A1C Champion in the state of Ohio. We'll see how it goes, I'll let you know.

Cheers,
Nick

Interesting. In order to become a champion you MUST need insulin and maintain an A1c of less than 7%.

But you also have to present THEIR materials.

That's what she said, mentioned all three things. So far, I haven't tuned her out - she has eluded to the low carb diet, eating to the meter.

Hmmmm ... never heard of that position. How does one apply? Are they recommended by a doc?

You can google it, it will get you the website and everything that they do, and that needs to be done, and I ran screaming when I saw what they were advocating as meals.

Especially to CHILDREN who were T1! (Fruit smoothies for breakfast?!? Way to set them up for teenage failures!)

Aaaahhh. Am also interested in personal impressions. I have less than zero interest in becoming part of the machine, but now I'm just plain curious about this thing. Many thanks!

UPDATE: http://www.a1cchampions.com/

Their Healthy Choices Cookbook does not live up to its name.

I am So Not Qualified for this position!

I was acceptid to train for train for A1c champions... you not only HAVE to preach there line (ADA) you CANT say anything else IE there is less pain If you use the side of your finger to test. I would NOT be allowed to say that at ANY time during or after the presentation. We (I and A1c Champions) decided it was too restrictive for me. What they want is people to give pep talks about diabetes care with NO substance.

Their main corporate sponsor appears to be Apidra (Lantus). What this confirms is the fact that our conventional "wisdom" about diabetes is marketing, pure and simple.

Sanifi is the sponsor. The A1c Champions do WANT to help Its the lawyers that want to keep the presenters from doing ANYTHING that could passably be used for litigation (remember they are talking about medical issues) in the presentation.
They are NOT allowed to use ANY brand names before during or after a presentation, other than to say who provided this presentation.

My take on it. It is designed to help, its just been gutted of useful information and turned into a pep talk.

A pep talk is what some people need to get started to controlling there diabetes.
