Default Ketonix Meter and dealing with the results

My BG and A1C are now under control, but I am no longer losing weight. I have been also going over my 100g of carbs per day limit by mentally ignoring certain carb sources. I know I have less energy now than I have had recently.

I got my Ketonix ketone test meter from Sweden (I know I'm going to Hell for this, but I mentally hear all the included instructions as being read by the Muppet Swedish Chef).

I blew into it... and no ketones at all. Which doesn't surprise me. My BG meter may be happy, but in order to be energetic I need to burn fat, not glucose.

So I'm having a bit of a pouty "wah" moment internally. I know what I have to do, but I had been cruising for quite a while. I will be interested to see if my 100g limit of carbs per day will put me into ketosis or if I have to go lower.

Wish me luck!

Well sure I wish you luck, and plenty of it. 100 grams carbohydrates seems to me to be a very generous allowance. You may need to go to 50 grams or below get the "happy colours" on your new equipment.

Well, I'll be right there with you. In fact, I hear that voice when I'm cooking. Even if I'm nuking eggs.

I'm sorry for your "wah" moments, but I'm interested in your results. I, too, am expecting to get a ketonix soonish, and believe that it will hold me to a higher standard than my meter is. And I'm at about 40g limit, with the occasional fruit splurge. My meter can take it, I think the ketonix will tell me "not for you!" But I still have 4+ inches I need to burn, and I'd like that to happen more quickly than probable!

Well according to Phinney and Volek you need to be under 50g carbs/day to reach ketosis. I need to keep at or under 25g a day to control my bg so I went into ketosis not too long after I started lchf. I got the Precision Xtra blood ketone meter out of curiosity really but I test every once in a while and I have never been under 1.0 and usually run between 2.5 to 3.5. I suspect you will have to reduce carbs and increase fat. As with everything YMMV.

I've had mine for a couple weeks now. Although I've continued to be in ketosis, I sometimes just register low(green). But most of the time it reads medium(amber) and occasionally high(red).

Since my BG is fairly stable now with no more than a 20pt rise with a meal, I really thought I'd be deep into ketosis. Apparently not all the time. And it appears that a BG of 130 pp will not knock me out of ketosis, which is what I had thought, but it probably does drop me into the low level. The instrument reads lower in the mornings and higher in the evenings, which is typical from what Salim says.

During the days the Ketonix meter reads consistently in the medium level with a few evening highs, I find that I am losing weight (which I want). But for this to happen I have to eat a lot of fats, and greatly reduce the protein keeping it at the minimum level. AND, I have to reduce portion size. No more eating a big meal in the evening followed by snacking on nuts!!!

Last night I had a rather large meal with more of the delicious sausage than I knew I should have. THEN I also had a generous handful of toasted/salted almonds while watching TV. So far today the K-meter reads "low". I'm eating lower-protein and higher fat today and hope that this evening's reading will register at least the medium level.

I suspect that the state of ketosis is not steady but has its ups and downs throughout the day. One of the nice things about the Ketonix instrument is that one can test as often as one wants and it doesn't cost any more.

Hope some of my experience helps others with the Ketonix meter.

OMG I can so relate, I am below 40 grams of carbs a day, could not get into Ketosis to save my live until I got really strict and now I am in Ketosis and also not eating as much because I am not as hungry, double bonus because even in Ketosis lower calories means more weight lose, I assume but really, I eat plenty, just not as hungry anymore. Good luck, stick to it, you will get there.

I direct you to this thread where Salim (Smorgan) discusses it in length.
http://www.diabetesforum.com/diabete...r-ketonic.html

The website is www.ketonix.com

I bought mine direct from Ketonix - was $99 with $10 shipping. Which is lower than the Amazon cost.

I did note on the Ketonix site that there was a upgrade in March of this year and that any device purchased after that would include the upgrade. I wasn't really sure that the Amazon units were upgraded, so decided to get it direct. It arrived in less than a week.

I bought it direct as well. No import fees or taxes to Canada, $10 shipping. It arrived more quickly from Sweden than most things I order from the US!

Thanks guys - I ordered directly from Ketonix.com as well. Paypal gave me a bit of a headache because I rarely use them, but after updating my credit card I got it through.

Looking forward to checking my K level and how that compares to my BG levels.
