Default Cheating?

I know my fasting BG will be 95 to 105 any given morning so if I go in for my "official" blood work I could easily get a Dx of diabetic if on two occasions the 105 showed up. On the other hand if I have my fasting blood drawn at 4:00 pm I know it will be around 85 to 95 and would, therefore, not get a positive Dx.
Is that sort of cheating, not that anyone would care?

Would it be a true fasting test at that hour of the day? If so, then go for it. But remember you must have had no intake except water (some say black coffee is okay) for at least eight hours.

Default no problem

Fasting from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm would pose no problem as I try to do the 24 hour fast, i.e. nothing by mouth except water for 24 hrs., a couple of times per year. It's the best exercise in self discipline known to man. and it applies to all life experiences.

Shanny and skb like this.

Curious what your "official" blood work is for? And why do you care if fasting it is a bit over 100?

If I do vigorous exercising mid to late evening, my FBG is in the 70s. Normally it's in the 80s, sometimes low 90s. A light beer late night will generally put me in the high 80s to mid 90s.

You state you are very fit, try exercising like maybe a brisk walk for 20 minutes late evening and see if it has a lowering effect on your FBG levels. I know for some exercising late keeps them awake, not me.

I'm also wondering why the question. The best answer that comes to mind could be insurance premiums. I mean look at your signature, Bob

I'm not sure what insurance premiums have to do with it. I'm too old to have life insurance and Medicare is what it is.
Might there be a reason to get an official diagnosis or not? I don't know.

By "official" blood work I'm referring to the complete panel of tests, i.e. lipids, etc., I get each December when I have my annual physical exam.
Doesn't two consecutive FBG over 100 = a Dx of type two diabetes? I'm not sure but I thought I saw that somewhere.

I ran a few searches. Tests on two days is part of the equation. 100 - 125 mg/dl seems to be used to DX PD. >125 mg/dl is DX D.

Hmmmmm....if you fiddled with the system you might be able to participate in diabetes research as part of the 'normal' population.

On the other hand, if you get formally DXd, you might be given a meter that tests 7 mg/dl off from the meter you currently use ... and (as an added bonus) enough test strips to test twice a day!

I think it depends on who is interpreting the results. My cardiologist has been a good friend longer than he has been my doc. He has ordered cardio and lipid blood tests for me since '03 and every one has FBG levels between 103 and 115. He has never mentioned that I may be pre-diabetic. He is also head of the heart transplant team and a professor in the med school here.

Heart wise, I'm pretty confident he knows his stuff. He got me hiking and climbing rock and ice years before I developed a heart artery blockage. I recently mentioned to him I'm on a LCHF diet and lowered my FGL and other benefits. He was fine with it. He knows I research things pretty deeply and thoroughly before diving in.

I checked my parents FBG levels and they are both in the Pre levels, but at 92 and 94 YO I don't think it's a problem, neither are over weight and both are healthy.
