Default Cofffee with dry creamer?

When I got up this morning, my BG was 101. I drank a cup of coffee with 1 tsp of a dry creamer and ate a boiled egg. then I went to a doctors appointment. Upon returning 1 1/2 hours later, my BG was 131. Now I am eating another boiled egg and three pieces of bacon. Can't wait to see how high these no carb snacks are driving up my BG. Any ideas?

Dry creamer is 1 gm per tsp. I use no more than 1 tsp. But, even 2 gms should not drive up my BG 30 points. I also realize that coffee will raise BG, but 30 points?

Without knowing which brand you're using, I can't really say more except that for you that creamer would appear to be lying. Sorry - use good quality cream instead - or like me - learn to like black coffee.

Not that I've noticed but as always with this condition YMWV. Your meter is your best friend in situations like this. I can say that coffee is fine (and for me that's true) and that creamer isn't (and for me that's true) but only you can establish what works for you. (But I'd still vote to ditch the creamer)

Before LCHF, I was taking Humalog and was taking 1 unit of insulin for every 3 gms of Carbs, which is pretty high. The Endro started me out at 1 unit for 5gms of carbs, but that didn't work for me. MY diabetes is pretty far advanced. I still take 25 units of Lantus at night and 4 500 mg of metformin daily. I eat about 20-30 carbs per day.
I will drink black coffee tomorrow and test and let you know.

Another thought - do you use a sugar substitute in your coffee? Again, these are not always as innocent as they claim to be. It does come down to using that meter and suspecting anything not proven innocent - for you.

My thought is that your liver did a glucose dump before you had the coffee and egg, and that's what raised your BG, rather than the 1g of creamer.

Now that makes sense. I will still try to drink my coffee black tomorrow without a dry creamer and eat a boiled eg. Then test with meter. I just checked my BG again and it is now 148 1 hour after eating I egg and 3 pieces of bacon with no coffee. 17 points?

Coffee stimulate the adrenals, if you already have high blood glucose, it will cause the adrenals to stimulate the liver and make it higher. It also acts the other way if you have normal blood sugar, stimulating fat burning instead.
