Default Kicking Diabetes in the butt!

I haven't been on this forum in awhile but I wanted to update you on my latest blood tests. First a brief history. I was dx'd May 2013 with type 2. My a1c was 6.5 and cholesterol was beyond ridiculous. So I was put on 1000mg of meteformin. I also started watching my diet lower carb/higher protein and no sugar along with exercise 5-6x a week. Six months later had lost 40 lbs. and did another a1c. It was down to 5.8! and cholesterol was much much lower. At about 8 months I started having a reaction to meteformin. It was making me sick sick sick. Not sure why but the Dr. said it can happen as my body, diet and exercise changes. My Dr. put me on glipazide for a month to see how I would do with that. Well, glipazide kind of made me go really low so I did that for only a month. Three months later and no meds (met or glip) I had my one year a1c and it was at 5.6!! My weight down 55 lbs and cholesterol panel completely normal! I am now 15 months since initial dx and I haven't been on any meds for diabetes OR cholesterol for the past 3 months and my blood glucose is the lowest I've ever seen it! Morning 90, after exercise 80, after meals 105 before my sugars were 124 morning, 115 after exercise and 140-200 after meals. I still exercise daily and watch my diet. My weight loss has stalled a bit but that's okay I feel great and I know I will start losing again once my body adjusts to where it is at now. I am confident when I go in for my a1c in November that my number will be even lower.

Nice work!! I'm glad you came back to update us. It is really good for brand new members that are struggling with everything to see what the results can be if they stick with it! Thanks!

Thanks for posting your success. We all love success stories. And they do wonders to encourage folks who are sort of "on the fence" about LCHF.

That is so encouraging. I am struggling to keep my carbs low enough. My a1c today was 5.6 and the doctor said it was 5.7 he would call me diabetic. He chided Ronnie and me about high cholesterol and suggested statins 'till I told him that Ronnie's neuro doc blamed statins for Ronnie's brain hemorrhage in 20013.
He suggested red rice yeast ( a natural statin).

... with exactly the same side effects - it is the same active ingredient as the drug, but perhaps a little less concentrated.
