Management is work, all right, but it becomes routine. Learning is much harder.

You're doing great!

One Big Problem with Asian cuisine is the tendency to use sweetened and/or starch-thickened sauces. Restaurants featuring other cuisines, including American classics, may do the same -- their goal is to avoid fat.

I like checking out menus online, I always make sure I test a lot after eating out ... even if it's a trusted dish from a place I've been to a bazillion times. Menus are always subject to change (or whim) without notice.

Still, I check online to see if a new place is remotely possible for me. Many restaurants post their menus on their own sites. CalorieKing.com is yet another great source for chain restaurant dishes.

Brazilian restaurants such as P.F.Chang's often use marinades to cook their meats with, so with every one that came to my table, I have to verify if they used a sauce or marinade in the cooking. By the third offering, they had it down and would immediately tell me.

I mentioned on another post that I have son who is non-diabetic who has followed my WOE, LCHF. He is 6'3 175 lbs. He works 2 jobs, one 60 hrs/week and the other is waiting tables at Chili's 3 nights a week.

He used to manage a Chili's and is pretty good with nutrition. He can eat a lot there and get LCHF. Single or double bacon burger w/cheese, no bun lots of mayo, salad with BC, no croutons and a side of broccoli with melted butter. Another is fajitas w/o tortillas, broccoli w/ butter. Steak, salad w/BC, broccoli. Even their Terlingua Chili and salad is pretty LC.

After a while on LC you can pic, mix and request what will work at most restaurants. Recently at a Chinese buffet I requested Teriyaki chicken without the sauce, they complied giving me freshly grilled plain chicken. I used soy sauce and hot chili oil, no carb to add flavor.

This has been an interesting read. My husband, who is not diabetic, has major stomach issues with anything that has any spices in it and can't eat dairy. We basically don't eat at restaurants anymore because of this. The last time we went out with friends for breakfast he ordered what was called "scrambled eggs with bacon" and when it arrived it has cheese in it. The waiter was rude and said, "Well, did you ask for it without cheese" and we pointed out how the hell would we know it had cheese since it didn't mention it on the menu. He replaced it with a new order of eggs that had pepper in it. So, he ate nothing. To be fair, we didn't mention anything up front to the waiter of his special needs. It's sad because we used to go to birthday dinners with friends but now if we go he winds up getting a piece of salmon with nothing on it for like $30, so we just don't go anymore.

My wife and I eat out three or four times per week. I always check the online menu before we go(unless it is one of our regular haunts). I will eat fried shrimp and fried fish and have never had a BS problem with the little bit of flour or corn meal that it is rolled in. All resturants have several veggies to chose from, if you stay away from Fast food places.

Chili's is one of my main go-to restaurants. Never have any of the wait-staff been reluctant to make adjustments with my food, and they are willing to go ask if they don't know the answer about any ingredient.

Same good experience at our Outback restaurant.

Ate at Ruby Tuesday yesterday and it was great. Peppercorn Asiago steak, spaghetti squash with melted butter and a salad bar with BC dressing. 1 hr pp @99, 2 hr pp @100.
