So I'm just wondering if I test for ketosis all day and the stick does not change color till evening does that mean I've not been in ketosis all day?

If you're using the urine test strips they only measure excess ketones, the ones your body isn't using for fuel. So you may be in ketosis, but it just doesn't register on the strips.

Sorry but unless you use one of the more expensive testers, blood or breath, there's really no definitive answer for that.

And to add to the equation.... if you are drinking lots of water, then your urine will be highly diluted, and that also impacts the ability of the stix to detect ketones if they're there.

The stix are only a tool, and a relatively poor one at best.

For a more in depth explanation of why ketostix are not a good test for nutritional ketosis you may want to look here :
The Ketogenic Diet for Health
They are really for type 1 diabetics to check for ketoacidosis and just not accurate for testing ketosis.

I get it! I read the article and unless you can measure ├é┬*beta-hydroxybutyrate├é┬*you really have no way of knowing unless you do a blood meter and breath meter still not sure know that knew I read. So I guess keto stick testing is a semi good measure but not too depend on it but as a tool and trust your eating instead.

They work fine for me…trend is what I watch for and I don't check every morning and I do it in the mornings when I'm dehydrated usually. But then I've been at this for some years and have the dietary pretty well figured out.

There's carbs and then there's carbs. I discovered, quite painfully, the importance of fiber in the diet a few weeks ago, when trying to reduce carbs from 50g to 30g a day. Avocados, flax seed meal and broccoli suddenly became MUCH more important in my diet. Those nuts I felt guilty eating - not so bad after all as they have fiber, too. So even among the good carbs, there is a hierarchy. Besides the macro nutrients, there is something in soluble fiber that works some magic in the intestines for vitamin absorption. I vote NO to 0 carbs.

kitkat1, you have probably already found this thread. I find it a very good and useful discussion about living in nutritional ketosis.
