Default weight loss achieved only with metformin but why?

I had tried for over two years to drop a pound and was unsuccessful until a clinic nurse put me on metformin. I was diagnosed prediabetic and had tried all sorts of diets along with eating much less carbs and no weight loss. It was not until she started me on metformin 2000 mgs a day that I was able to lose weight. what could be a reason for this? I am still on metformin but weight has seemed to of leveled off now but still need to lose about 30 more pounds

Insulin is the primary fat regulator hormone in the body.

Metformin works at (1) decreasing Insulin Resistance, thereby allowing more of it to enter the cells (2) decreasing liver output of glycogen (complex glucose) thereby reducing the need for insulin.

These are the probable causes for your weight loss experience.

So it sounds like I will be stuck on metformin forever?

Not necessarily a bad thing, since it helps with your high blood sugar as well. It works on the receptors to allow more insulin into your cells, and it reduces glucose secretions by the liver. In my opinion, it's the only oral diabetes drug that's safe.

I don't mind having to take it but what I mind is that something it's totally wrong with my body that I now have to take it or continue to gain weight. I guess it's kind of scary to know something is wrong with my body, kind of like my thyroid went out of whack too. My last test in April was 1.89 and now is 0.069 crazy stuff going on in my body.

Like you, I hate the idea of taking drugs. Unfortunately for me, I hated it so much that I waited way too long before taking meds that helped me a LOT. Now I have to admit that I need some meds and will for as long as I live. But I feel SO MUCH BETTER on them, and with the LCHF diet, that it's not a big thing. If there's a zombie apocalypse my first stop is the pharmacy to get a lifetime supply.
