Default Doctor Visits

I am so new to this I just want to ask a question. With being a type two diabetic do I have to look forward to a lot of doctor visits. I am paying out of pocket. I have no insurance at my job since I am a pain intern. That is the only bad thing about my job. I had my initial visit. I got blood work this Friday and I got to go back that next Tuesday for a check up. How often do diabetics usually have to visit the doctors.

It's very individual I'd think, but I go every three months and get my A1C checked. But then mine is controlled by diet, so I'm on no drugs right now.

Others will come along in a bit, I'm sure.

Good luck,

Even when I was on insulin I saw my doctor very rarely and only when I am having a problem. I am on no Rx's at the current time, have no insurance and everything is out of pocket. I do most of my A1C thru Walmart or Walgreens. The meter I use is SideKick from Wally World, $20 for a meter and 50 strips.

I guess since I have just been diagnose is why I have to go so much. The initial visit, the blood work visit, and then the results visit.

The faster you get stable, the cheaper it becomes. Also you can order your own blood work at mymedlab with out doctors script. They will email you the results.

You can also compare prices with iNeedLabs.com (formerly PrePaidLab.com) to see which might be cheaper for whatever test (or combination) you might want.

As MCS has said the quicker you can get bgs into a normal range the less you will have to go to a doctor. I have insurance but it is high deductible so I have to pay the first $6000 of bills before insurance kicks in. I usually only go for diabetes checks once or twice a year. I don't do the full lab tests every year because I won't go on statins. I check my HbA1c at home and just report it to the doctor. Also make sure you discuss with your doctor that you are uninsured and only do the tests that are medically necessary. My doctor even suggested I use an independent lab rather than the hospital lab. Also tell him you want to start off with generic drugs which are a lot cheaper. If the generics don't work then you can go to the more expensive drugs. Also search out your area for free or reduced priced clinics.

I won't iterate what the others have advised, but I will tell you that when our doc became aware of our financial straits, he even gave a big discount on my office calls, as much as he was allowed to by his group, he always prescribed generic drugs & steered me to the cheapest places to get them. He was a godsend!

before I got my old age certificate aka medicare. I went to a free low cost clinic. when I had my labs done , full work up, it was $30.

I had to go downtown to the free clinic next to the hospital for my eye exams. free.
they are out there you just have to find them.
