Default Does anyone know the difference between these two insulin

My new doctor started me off on Humalog 50/50 and so far it seems to be working great but one of the samples they gave me is just Humalog, it is clear and the one I am using I have to shake it.
I have tried to figure out the difference on Google and can't figure it out. I see there is a 75/25 also.
I plan on calling them in the morning but wondered what the difference is.
I know some last longer and some are faster acting. I have even been told you can use both. No idea what I have though.

The 50/50 and 75/25 are combination of slow and fast acting insulins, so that may the why it looks different than just Humalog alone.

Humalog is short-acting bolus, whereas the 50/50 is long and intermediate-acting.

I found this chart that tells you the length of action of each.

Wow great replies. Now it makes sense. I was using that stuff they sell at walmart for 25 bucks and my blood sugar would stay at 300-325 no matter what. I could take 400 units and if I was lucky it would break 300. I may as well use water as insulin.

Curious: you said you gave up sodas, which is great, but are you cutting other carbs (bread, grains, potatoes, rice, sweets etc) also?

I am now, I cut back before but now the only carbs I eat are in fruits or stuff with a low amount of them. I stopped eating anything unless it was good for me in some way.

I'd like to recommend the book Diabetes Solution by Dr. Bernstrin, himself a T1 diabetic and an advocate of eating low-carb, even (and especially) for those on insulin.

Quite a bit of the book is available online at his website. Read Online - Diabetes Solution - Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. A Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars. Official Web Site

Scroll down to Chapter 7 - Law of Small Numbers. Which is an approach to insulin use that helps keep blood sugar more stable with more manageable levels of BG fluctuation.

It is still insulin and should have lowered your blood sugar. You have to use two different insulins much of the time - a basal insulin and a bolus for meals. Anyway, I'm glad things are working out better for you. PM me if you need Dr. Bernstein's book.

Humalog 75/25 means that 75% of the mixture is long-acting insulin and 25% is short-acting.
