I went through severe depression on statins and only 1 out of 3 drs believed me, the other 2 put it down to coincidence that i felt better when i took myself off them. Am trying differents fruits and fish that is known for helping to reduce cholesterol. The annoying thing is my dr put me on them cause i was long term diabetic as my good cholesterol out weighed my bad, it seems that they just love pushing them on people.

Are you eating low carb/ high fat?

My dr. wanted to put me on statins when I was first dx'd - but I said a firm NO! A year on LC/HF has brought them down into the normal range. I did not take anything special. Just stuck to the LC/HF. Of course, YMMV. But you might want to give diet a chance before eating fructose-laden fruit.

My doc told me that ALL diabetics must go on statins, regardless of lipid levels, and that the results were marvelous!

This, even though my HMO's home page at the time advised against automatic statin prescriptions.

At last testing, my "bad cholesterol" level was epically bad, though "good cholesterol" was, well, good. Based on this, my doc said statins are even more mandatory for me -- so no need for a full lipids panel. I refused to take 'em anyway.

Shanny and VeeJay like this.

Don't worry have done my homework, when i had high good cholesterol i was drinking alot of grapefruit juice, which has a low fructose level, but really good for reducing bad cholesterol. Ironically when you take statins it states you must avoid grapefruit. Am on a diet as well bjt hedging my bets for the big fight i'm gonna have with my dr. They persuaded me to take a different statin convincing me it wont have the same effects, but this time i knew what to look out for and stopped when i started feeling myself getting mood swings and feeling low.
