Default what do you do about OTC med like cough drops?

I'm new to all this, and just ran across something the package couldn't answer (and, I'm sure there will be a lot like it). I had a coughing spell and went for a cough drop. Thinking surely they'd have a sweetener in it and not sugar, I read the label only to find it has glucose syrup. And, of course, there's also no nutritional label either. So, I know I can eat a piece of sugar free candy for this situation since it's just a throat tickle, but what if it had been a true need for something similar that also had a type of sugar in it. Naturally, I can't think of another OTC med right now with the same problem, but if you can and have an answer, I'd sure appreciate it.

if needed there are many sugar free options of cough drops

they have sugar alcohols and you have to check to see how it affects you

I don't know WHY I didn't think of that....oh yeah, my head is so full of things I've been reading, I can't remember things I already knew ! whew.
Like I said, this is all new to me. I'm not diabetic..YET..and, am hoping/trying not to get there. I will try everything possible, so as usual, as with everything else, I'm trying just a little too hard; wanting to learn it all RIGHT NOW!

no worries at all.. we are all learning

just look at the labels to find the best one. some sugar free ones that high carbs (those sugar alcohols). Look for the lowest ones and then test before and after if you have a meter
