My numbers have been dropping and I don't know why. Today was 91, yesterday 88. I'll take it.

Made pumpkin pie today (frozen pumpkin that accidentally thawed). Tried this recipe. Skipped the butter and went right for the Crisco shortening for the pie crust. Anyway, it's a yummy substitute for the original pumpkin pie recipe that everybody uses (Libby's can). 12.3 grams carbs vs. 42 grams for 1/8 slice pie.

I thought your fasting blood sugar had to be below 100 or is that only for non-diabetics?

Fasting is what it is. Non-diabetics are usually below 100. But as long as your BG level is below 140 then it's okay. It's not something that you have direct control over, other than keeping daytime post-meal levels reasonably low (below 140 at all times, and probably safer to have a max target level of 130 or less).

I have yet to have fastings below 100. I'm real happy if it's no higher than 115.

129 (7.2) this morning. Gearing up for a knee replacement on June 5. Have had some problems with my one knee for several years, finally had it diagnosed in January and went through PT, gel shots, etc. Biting the bullet and getting it done. Wish me luck. Good news is less eating out, so my BG should come down a bit more.

Good luck Jim, hope the replacement goes smoothly. One of my control room operators had both replaced, one earlier in the year and then the second one done before the end of the year, while his deductible and out of pocket expenses for the year were still satisfied. He hasn't regretted either one.

A 111 (6.2) the last 2 mornings.

Hey Jim, my best to you on a speedy recovery. A friend of mine had both knees replaced, and he joked that he could now chase his wife around the house...LOL!

Hi guys, thanks so much for the kind words. I think the uncertainty about whether it's the right time or not is the hard part. A lot of folks let it go until the pain is unendurable or they lose all function. I'm electing to do it while my loss of function is still "moderate," my wife has had both hips resurfaced and she argues for joint replacement sooner rather than later, reasoning that it's best to do it while your muscles are still fairly strong. So we'll see.

136 (7.5) this morning. I just have a link to OnlineConversion.com - Blood Sugar Converter bookmarked in my browser and convert my morning reading to mmol/l for our non-U.S. friends.

thanks again everyone for the encouragement on the surgery

140. My numbers had been under 120 all week, so I'm just assuming that this is an outlier. I see the endo on the 15th, so I need to track better. Sigh.

Sorry I have only been around periodically. My sister, who lived here, died unexpectedly earlier this month from an extraordinarily aggressive cancer. I'm not saying this to garner sympathy, but only want to remind all of you that if you think something is OFF and the doctor blows you off, make an appointment with another doctor. This is especially true in flu season where unexplained fevers are passed off as the 'virus that is going around.' Don't let it go until you feel the problem has been reasonably addressed. Sometimes they don't get it right.
