176 this morning... "1 freakin 76"; I never had a number this high for fasting BS.

Turns out after doing some online research the Meloxicam I was prescribed to take for 1 month acts just like a cholesterol lowering drug in that it raises you blood sugar. I will bring this up with the surgeon when I meet with him next week for my 2 week post op visit. Plus, if I really still need to take it; basically its an anti-inflamatory drug used in arthritis treatment.

I am fuming with these numbers; not sure if the Vicodin for pain is adding to it.

On the plus side, pain meds I have been tapering down; yesterday I only took a third of what I was prescribed and none so far today.

Also, 14 days into my injury and I lost 9 pounds just lying around on my butt.
I am off crutches; my walk is more like shuffling my feet; I can place full weight on my leg with the brace and what the doctor wants me to do.

My wife says that I have the same gait and speed in walking as out 20 year old barn cat.

Now if only that amazing progress would apply to getting that fasting number down...

151 this morning; slightly better than yesterday. Nurse follow-up call yesterday; I mentioned about the higher BS and she indicated that I can stop taking Meloxican and go back to Tylenol. Let's see how today fairs; so far so good with minimal pain.

Good [email protected]; Meloxicam is also hard on the stomach. They blamed my son's ulcer on it.

Even better today at 123; Meloxicam has a 20 hour half life; Vicodin is only 3.8 hours. I have been off Meloxicam for 2 days. No more Vicodin; I only took a couple Tylenol yesterday. Its getting easier to get out of bed since there is much less pain. Fingers crossed til next Weds when the staples are removed and I get an assessment from the surgeon.

Tending not to visit the forum when I have had rotten BGLs. I was "bad" yesterday. Went to bed with an 11.2 (it was the pie I had for a "snack" because I had an early dinner and was starving) and chose not to have a bolus dose. Should have. Woke to 10.2. The only (but sometimes good) advantage of a high BGL for me is that I sleep. When BGL is in a good place I sleep really badly. Well, back on track again today. At least I know my next A1c will be OK.

I enjoyed that pie. Oops.
