122......These days I can't be sure if the 1st reading is correct. I've gotten as high as 143 and tested again only to get 107 or similar. I checked the control solution, and it says it's all right, but this has happened at least 5+ times in the last month. The meter is ReLion, and it's a little over 4 years old. Do they need to be replaced after a certain length of time?

It's not routine to replace meters, though they don't last forever. You checked the control solution; what's the date on your strips?

The ReLion brand covers a few meters, from a couple of manufacturers, if I remember correctly. Which specific model do you have?

Thanks. the date on the strips is 4/29/21, and I opened them 12/13.
It's a ReLion Prime. Is that the model?

thanks.

Yup, Prime is the model. Apparently no public reputation as particularly accurate or not.

Thing is, testing at home can be quite subjective. The meter can be off 15% or so and still be considered accurate, so your 143 and 107 consecutive readings really are not out of spec: 143 - 107 = 36, so the actual reading could be 125 (halfway between the two readings) and both 143 and 107 would be within 15% of that 125.

Then there are the vagaries of chosen test site, relative size of blood sample (we're talking picoliters here, you don't have to be off much to make a significant difference in volume), the fact that blood does not have a uniform composition of glucose, red blood cells, etc.

Generally we recommend people look at trends (broadly up over time, etc.) rather than individual readings, especially at this level (different if the reading is being used to dose insulin but that's not an exact science either).

Since you've been using the meter for a while without this wide range, however, I'd see if maybe there's another vial of strips you could try out to see if these are bad (even if they're new). Maybe they were stored improperly before they hit the shelf or something. If it's not the batch of strips and the number variation really bothers you, another ReLion Prime runs ... what? $10 at Walmart? Might want to get a new meter just to be sure.

Have you changed batteries in the meter since you bought it?
