Well, I've only been diagnosed about three weeks and on 500 mg Metformin 2x day, with the dr saying I'd probably need more. (7.8 a1c)

I've only had the meter for a week, but my fasting is constantly higher. I plan to wake up at 3 am and see what's happening then, but haven't yet. However, I'm calling it dawn phenom.

So it's run the gamut of 119 low to 136 highest, and usually 125 or so.

This thread is so interesting in that it doesn't seem unusual that eating brings the number down. It does that for me too, and usually I get into the 107-115 range.

This morning was a HUGE SHOCK!

I started at 132, then made a smoothie I used to have a lot when I had a fresh garden going. It's spicy and has fresh spinach, some cucumber, a jalapeno, I forgot the fresh mint, and coconut water. Also it calls for fresh mango, but after reading the carb/sugar count, I skipped that to see how it would taste. It was fine.

And then an hour later, BAM! The highest reading I've had since starting: 152. What the heck????

I must have misread the label on the coc water. LOL. One can has 29 carbs, and the SECOND ingredient is blasted SUGAR. I wasn't very hungry, so I probably ended up with a quarter to third of that can.

But I just got a wakeup call about sugar. That's the first sugar that snuck into my diet by mistake, and lesson learned. I don't know if all coconut water is like this (Goya brand....tsk on them), but I'll make another one and use coconut OIL instead!

Fie on you, coconut water with surprise sugar.

And here's the most bizarre (in my opinion, but I'm still learning!) reading of all:

I read on one thread that someone had the TOP of pizza and left the crust. I thought what a great idea, because I knew at some point I would be missing pizza.

So I bought a Sicilian California frozen pizza and scraped off the good stuff, tossed the crust. It was DELICIOUS. (I also had a small salad with Marie's Italian Garlic dressing that is mega fatty but no/low carb, and some mystery pickled button mushrooms that are the bomb, from the grocery salad bar...but I was worried they might have sugar. Guess not.)

And I had the lowest numbers I've had since starting with the meter a little over a week ago: 99 at one hour and 102 at two hours.

Really? Yay pizza top and pickled mushrooms!

Search the recipe threads Jennifer. There is an assortment of pizza crusts that we can eat. Made of things like pork rinds, cheese, cauliflower, etc.

I forgot to check in this morning!

My fasting bs was 121. My current bs is 101.

I am currently experimenting to see if my when my dinner is smaller if it correlates with higher morning reading, vs eating a full dinner. (LCHF of course.)

Default Fasting

Hi
I'm new here, from Australia.
We gauge BSL a bit differently but using a conversion web site, my fasting BSL is 102mg/dL

My fasting reading this morning is 118. I am not sure if I am finally on a downward trend or if I simply didn't sleep long enough. LOLOL

I was 108 (6.0) at bedtime last night and this morning I was 85 (4.7)

Glad to see you here BSValli. BG can be measured in mg/dL (mainly used in the US) or mmol/L (rest of the planet). I usually post both for the convenience of those looking. You can post yours however you like.

I'm glad I read this thread. My morning fasting numbers are almost always high, and I don't understand; or didn't. Just like you said, after I have my coffee, eggs and bacon, I test MUCH lower than when I wake up. My Dr said it doesn't really matter as long as my A1C is coming in lower....(am "pre" diabetic....dx "high blood sugar, w/Dr finding morning fasting at 119).. then other Dr tested for A1C, and it was 6.1 when I had just started eating low carb. I just went again, but don't have the results yet (this is 3 months later)...I shall see.
