Default DonnaB update

Hi All,

Been a while since I posted, but I've still been hanging out some!
To give my quick background, lean "pre" in 2013 and found it myself after doing the bagel morning test from BS101 (my husband had pre as well so i was just following along). Went LCHF and passed testing -my bg less than 100 and my insulin also under "normal range"
After a year my cholesterol was up-no biggie. then the next year up again, another year even higher. FYIW my husband had no such issue-so he's still on LCHF.
It was just too much for me. I know I read tons about cholesterol and the great cholesterol con etc. and I was good with my cholesterol initially. But a steady increase year after year I was simply not comfortable with. I did the NMR etc and made a decision myself to change. So I very very slowly introduced more carbs and less fat. So a year later on that and I am eating 25g carbs at breakfast-and BS is steady-nary a rise (I would eat 0 carbs for breakfast in the past). I can eat rice and potatoes with meals and have as good control as with my lchf. I'm not "cured" I can't go out and eat carbs to my hearts content, but my cholesterol is back down and my BS is stable for now. I'll be keeping an eye on it! Promise!

Welcome back Donna.

It seems you've found what works for you - which is the bottom line in diabetes management.

Interesting! You say your not cured, I'm thinking maybe you are if you can can deal with moderate amounts of carbs. I don't know if we were were made to pig out on carbs all the time without issue. Both my folks are in their mid to late 90's never had any BG issues, their FBG is good. They are both slender and have always ate small portions, never soda, ate healthy. My poor eating, binging on high carb food led to my issues.

Ha! Maybe I am cured then. I'll take it! don't know if i'd pass the ogtt though! I ate a pretzel fasting one day and shot to over 200! (just couldn't resist the aroma on an empty stomach and i'd skipped breakfast that day-resisted the next day-I learned my lesson!)

Congrats on finding what works for you Donna! It's always good to keep track of the data to figure out what change you need to make.
