The question I have is I wonder how much damage will I have from the drugs to get me to an A1c of 6 from where I am at right now. I sure hope they are wrong or I am screwed.
I am going to give the LCHF diet a try.

tracker1....taking metformin and insulin combined with eating all low carb high fat foods as outlined in the reading, will get you to 6 and even better! Do not fear either metformin or insulin, they have been around much longer than other meds for diabetics, and accordingly are relatively safe....other options. Not so much!

I think most everyone on this website, diabetic all....have gained control of their A1c by using one or both of these drugs coupled with eating LCHF! I did it in 2015 and was able to reduce my nightly insulin injections from 126u to 26u, simply by stop over eating CARBS....

This is how you too can get your health under control....do the reading and then give LCHF a try....it is amazing and costs nothing, other than throwing out all the high carb food you might have setting around............

I missed your post as to what drugs you are actually taking. At your very high blood sugar levels, you need that medical support until you can get your numbers to something reasonable. Diet can help a lot. You can have success with either LCHF or Atkins (Atkins starts you off very low and then you gradually add back carbs to about 40-45 per day).

For a lot of people who are way overeating carbs, at the very least, try simply capping your carbs at 105 grams a day. This is reasonably generous (you can still have a sandwich at lunch), but far lower than most people are eating when first diagnosed. That's 30 grams per meal plus a 15 gram snack. Won't cause a diabetes educator to give you crap. Then, once you have more control, you can work out lower carb options.

My concern is that if you are not that knowledgeable, going instantly on very low carb can cause you problems because you are on diabetes medications. Learn to use your meter and to understand what lows and psuedohypoglycemia looks like and maybe feels like. Test, test, test. Then you won't get into trouble. Div2Live was very successful, but already had experience reading his meter and adjusting insulin (which is easier to adjust than pills usually). Doesn't take long, but does take some work on your part. Good luck!!

Right now I just started 2000mg of Metformin a few weeks ago. I have had issues with other drugs they have tried to give me so I am resistant about taking more drugs. I am more knowledgable about diets from my early years of body building.

Gonna throw this out there, as I am a newbie and just starting this long road. Have you had a GAD-65 antibody test? Could it be a misdiagnosis of type 2 and not 1.5(LAAD)? Just a thought, but I feel for you. Nothing worse than numbers going up and your watching every little thing you eat. Sending you hugs.
