Default Too soon to take A1C

My new doctor gave me an order to take another A1C.
I was diagnosed January 18 of this year. Is it too soon? I got my blood sugar down that month...and have kept it down since then.
Will my previously high blood sugars impact the reading? Should I wait another month?

I would wait so you get a better average. I too was dx in January and I am waiting until the end of April to do it again and will see my doctor about a week later.

Good luck!
Rachel

Yeah I am going to wait until April. My averages were really high over a month ago...and I've had the occasional minor spike. I don't want that to mess with my averages.

The A1c is a weighted average. So 50% of that number comes from your last 3-4 weeks BG, the month before that about 25 %, then 15 % & 10%. It's not an absolute science but more or less this is what happens. I'd say go for it. It will inspire you.

As said your HbA1c is a weighted average. Normal blood cells live for 3 months so there may still be glycation hanging around. I wouldn't worry so much about the number itself. With most diabetetics it takes much more than 3 months of good bgs to get a good HbA1c.
