Default Diabetic Associations

Hey everyone,

Other than the ADA, what are some other diabetic associations?

I've seen 2 others mentioned here, but I can't remember where I saw them. One of them has the word "Endocrinologist."

A good friend of mine was recently diagnosed as borderline diabetic. It was so funny how she told her doctor that her friend told her that either you are diabetic or your aren't. Of course, that friend she was talking about was ME !

She, like the rest of us newbies, is overwhelmed. I told her about LCHF, and she's amenable to the idea, but she still wants to incorporate her sweets.

She mentioned ADA, and I told her that the majority of us don't subscribe to their guidelines.

Can you please let me know what the other associations are? I've done a 'search' but I can't find that particular post.

Thank you all so much !

I went to Blood Sugar 101 site to gather a bit more information about the two main diabetes association that might be relevant to your discussion.

Healthy Blood Sugar Targets

Quote:
In 2007, The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), an organization of specialists who treat diabetes, published a White Paper recommending that blood sugar should not be allowed to rise above 140 mg/dl two hours after a meal.
Quote:
The American Diabetes Association (ADA). The ADA continues to recommend a much higher, much less safe, blood sugar target--180 mg/dl (10 mmol/L) two hours after a meal.
You might enjoy reading the full article which is chock full information and studies and journal articles that cover the issues of just what is the best BG level for diabetics to avoid complications - which is what the bottom line is.

Jenny Ruhl suggests that even the more strict AACE are too lax when it come to avoiding complications, and she recommends BG levels more in line with non-diabetic levels - at least as close as you can get to that.

Pre meal <100
1hr pp <140
2hr pp <110

I believe that Dr. Bernstein's recommendations are even more strict than this.

IMO - you aren't going to get support for the more strict BG levels from any diabetes association. Either in the US or internationally.

I believe the other organization mentioned was the IDF (International Diabetes Federation)
