Hi Lucy, welcome to the forum.

As far as exercise, activity does consume energy. For many that energy does comes from glucose and even a short walk or other physical activity does lower their BG (blood glucose). For me, it can go either way, especially if my activity is moderately intense. I've checked my BG before and after activities and I've seen nice drops and I've seen not so nice increases. The increases mostly due to my liver wanting to help provide energy as my BG starts to ease down by converting stored glycogen back into glucose and getting into circulation.

Best thing that I have found is to minimize the main source of that glucose that is introduced in my diet. I count carbs in my food and try to avoid as many carbs as I can, I eat a very low carb diet. Simple sugars are quickly digested and converted to BG, starchy foods can be quickly converted to BG, complex carbohydrates take longer to digest and have a lower immediate impact but longer lasting effect on BG. The body does try to control excess glucose by converting it to glycogen and stores it in the liver for a future source of glucose. I don't have excess glucose that is stored, my problem is that I tend to overeat proteins and some of the excess amino acids can be converted to glycogen and stored for later use.

My philosophy on BG control for Type 2s is first do it with diet, if that is not enough add some more physical activity, if that's not enough, then it may be time to add some meds to the mix. I would never rely on meds alone.

If you can, venture over to the Introduction Threads and read what others have posted as they have learned to manage their BG. We are one big helpful family here, so if you can tell us a little more about yourself in regards to your diabetes history in your own introduction post. Hope to seeing more from you in the future.

Welcome, Lucy! You've come to a great place for support.
How long since you were diagnosed? It took quite a while for my numbers to come down after my diagnosis. And my morning numbers were the last to come down (and the first to go up.)

My day was surprisingly less stressful, that's odd for a Monday. Plumb scary.

97 just now! I was 98 on my Dexcom and raced to my meter to verify. Woot!

My CGM has been showing some random <100 readings but this is a first for my meter since I got back on the wagon.
