We have touched on this topic a few times in the last month or so, but I want to dig a little deeper into this topic about how and why our journey evolves over time.

First read these two discussions.

http://www.diabetesforum.com/diabete...-diabetes.html

Somewhere along the journey, each of us has to decide for ourselves exactly what our end goal is and then work a plan to reach that goal.

The most important part of that though is the DECISION that we make.

A motivational speaker (Zig Ziglar) that inspired me for years, used to say, “Plans change, decisions don’t”. That one comment has taught me so much over the years.

Let me share a part of an article I wrote back in 2005, long before I knew I had diabetes. Yes, I realize it is long, but there really is a point I am trying to make here.

Quote:
One day I decided that I was going to take a road trip down to San Antonio. I took a quick peek at a few maps so that I could plan the route that I would take on this trip. The directions looked like it would be very EASY to get to San Antonio. I would only need to take two roads to get to my destination. My plan was to take I-55 South down to I-10 West, which would take me right into San Antonio.

The day of the trip began bright and sunny and I was very excited to begin. I jumped in my car and was on my way. About halfway through my trip, traffic came to a complete halt. Up ahead I noticed there was a big sign – ROAD CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION. At this point one, of two different scenarios might occur. You decide which of these would describe your response to the situation.

RESPONSE #1
Well darn it anyway! I guess that means I just cannot make this trip. I know signs are explaining the detour route for people to take, but I am not sure I understand the new directions. This is not what I planned. I know I am already halfway there, but I think I better just give up my decision to go to San Antonio. I am going to turn around and go back.

RESPONSE #2
The roads are under construction? That is FANTASTIC! I have taken these roads a million times before, and I have to tell you, they really needed some reconstruction! Here I thought I was going to take the same old route, and now I get the opportunity to look at some new scenery and there will be signs to lead me the whole way? That is definitely FANTASTIC.

Yes, I know this is a little ridiculous, but the choice is yours. You can CHOOSE to rant and rave all the way home and tell everyone what kept you from getting to your destination. Or, you can CHOOSE to make the best of your little detour and finish what you set out to do. Spend some time in San Antonio.

My DECISION was to spend time in San Antonio, which route I took was simply the plan.
Okay, now back to the point I am trying to make here. (Yes, I realize if you asked me what time it is, I would likely teach you how to build a clock and never actually get around to telling you what time it is, but I am getting there, I promise.)

Let’s say for a moment that your DECISION, is to gain 100% control of your diabetes, then how you go about doing that is the PLAN.

Throughout your journey, how you go about fulfilling your DECISION may change. You may take a different route around along the way, get lost for a little while and even take a few detours, but if it is your DECISION, you will get there.

How will you know when you get there? By your results.

I wanted to give y'all an example, of what I mean by my "ever evolving" journey.

It has only been 8 months since I posted about The LCHF Lifestyle Doesn't Need To Be Complicated or Boring! Looking back now, I see a couple of things on that list that I would no longer eat or drink. It doesn't mean those things are not okay, they just ended up not being the best for me after I transitioned to full fledged KETO. (1) Low carb tortillas - I now just stick to lettuce wrapped. (2) Premier Protein Drink - After reading the ingredients, not just the net carb count, I decided not to continue drinking these.

Keep in mind though, this thread isn't about MY journey. It is about YOUR journey and those things that you discover work best for you.
