Welcome back, Jayson. I hope for a quick recovery from your gall bladder surgery.

I haven't seen or heard anything about a connection between the gall bladder and blood glucose readings, but my gall bladder was removed years before I was diagnosed so maybe I just haven't been paying attention.

I'm going to guess you were fasting for the surgery and likely didn't want to eat much afterward. Might that involuntary fasting have something to do with low blood glucose levels? Just asking.

I am seriously considering completely replacing my Metformin with Berberine as a test to see what happens. I still have 3 1/2 months until my next A1C so that gives me about 10 days to do a test without screwing up my next test results.

Still pondering...

Is 10 days enough if you're borderline of what is acceptable for your trial? You should be able to give it a little longer, you are eating right and should recover nicely if necessary.

I'm gonna have to take it one day at a time. I expect my numbers to be worse initially (as the metformin leaves my system) so my guidelines will be if the numbers continue to rise or if they start to stabilize. I already live strict KETO, so not a lot more I can do from that standpoint.

I will drive myself crazy wondering if I don't at least try.

Go for it then..

I didn't take my Metformin last night, so today is day 1.

Although I normally don't eat in the morning, I went ahead and had a hard boiled egg with my coffee and a dose of Berberine.

After researching several brands, I decided to go with Sunergetic.

I may change my mind later on, but this one seems to be a good starting point for me.

I'm not seeing going back on metformin as a fail or bad thing. It has several good benefits. Would it make any difference if it were OTC like Berberine or if Berberine were prescribed? I do understand the mindset of being off meds, that's why I first went off metformin.

I am rooting for your success at this though.

Honestly, I was going to leave it alone (stay on my Metformin) but when I went back to my full dose of it, I started dealing with daily nausea. I expected it only to last a few days but it became more than I wanted to deal with. Anyway, that is how I ended up deciding to try one last "experiment".

Cricket, if I am not mistaken from what I calculated for the last dose of Metformin to leave your system completely it will take a total of 96 hours. Each half-life of metformin is 17.6 hours so; you would need to go through 5.5 half lives or 4.03 days for the last dose to be out.

Hang in there and I have my fingers crossed for you!

Best,
fjk2013
