Default Help with Meter

I bought a meter, it recognized the test strips but in 12 tests I have taken it has only given me 2 readings. I did not do anything different with the other tests that gave readings so I am wondering if the meter is bad? Any advise?

What brand and model of meter is it? (Others here with the same model might be able to help.)

Also, did it give you an error message when it didn't read? The booklet that came with it will help you interpret the error message.

And were your fingers totally clean, and did you give it enough blood? Some meters require more blood than others.

Every meter is different. Some require a number code be punched in. Some if you don't have a big enough blood drop will give an error reading. Does your meter light up or is it black. Make sure you push the strip in all the way. If it still is happening call the 1 800 number on the back of the meter.

Is that required in the US? I just checked and my Accu-Chek Performa doesn't have one. When I bought mine, the pharmacist who showed me how to use it said to take it back there if I had any problems and they'd use a test solution to check it for me.

Every meter I have had has a 1-800 number either on the meter itself or the instuctions. Many times they will send you a new meter, battery or even a new batch of strips if that is the problem. They are usually very accomodating. Most of our drug stores here are big chains and quite busy. I can't imagine them helping out with a meter. I usually get most of my meters for free online.

Also my strips come with an instruction booklet that includes an 800 number.

The big chains here aren't too bad for assistance, but it's the personal care that keeps me going back to my tiny pharmacy, which still finds space for four little booths where the pharmacists can give advice. And they will match any written price from one of the big chains.

Let's hope that Germany also insists on the toll free number if AVR needs it. I always toss the booklets with the box as soon as I open it.

My new meter works perfect, no problems!!! Had my first reading this morning that was in normal range. Had only got the oold one to work one time in the morning and it was not in normal range. So I feel like I am heading in the right direction! Thanks!

Same here, Ann . . . I'm not going to any chain store - I'm not doing mail order, I don't care HOW cheap they make it . . . I'm sticking with my local pharmacy where they see us come through the door & already have our order located & at the register by the time we get from the front door to the counter! (Such efficiency - and then we stand around & talk Bronco football with the owner's son for ten minutes anyhow! )

That level of service deserves loyalty, doesn't it? I've been patronising this one since I found them open on Good Friday once, many years ago, when I had an emergency with my mother.
