8/29/18 223 Atkins Shake 236 206 None before lunch 195 Chicken, 1/3 cucumber, strawberries avocado 200 174 Black Olives and Cheese 158 126 Tuna and avocado 131 129 SF Jello and whipped cream 142 141 171

I think Avocado and tuna bring my blood sugar levels down. Every time I eat that my levels seem to stay the same or drop. Same with Cheese and Black Olives. Interesting. I'm not doing the Atkin's shakes any more. They raise it every time. I'm going to eat Carbmaster yogurt. I seem to do well with that. I just keep learning!!

etherea and VeeJay like this.

It's great that you're getting a sense of what affect certain foods have on your Blood Sugar Levels. It's good to know what one can or shouldn't eat and it sometimes varies from person to person so you can;t always go by what others say.

My biggest challenge as a Type 1 (and I've been one for a long time) is keeping my Blood Sugars stable when I'm suffering from illness - whether it's a mild cold or stomach issue, allergies or some other normal and to most trivial ailment.

What makes it complicated is the lack of consistency. This week I've been dealing with hay fever and a stomach issue (indigestion). I've hardly been eating but even with my regular dosage of insulins, I'm finding my BG levels running a little higher than normal.

But having said that, the next time I get hit with something - I may have the complete opposite experience. Needless to say I've been testing like crazy to deal with rises and falls.

I suspect this will always be a challenge.

I didn't even know that was an issue to worry about.

I have sinus issues almost daily and take an antihistamine for the issue. Usually it's in the morning but lately, with this weather, it's been bad. I can still eat though. Not much stops me from doing that.

Thanks!

I found this interesting because I also drink the atkins drinks and I also drink the EAS carb vantage. I decided to do a test with mine because I never have. I started off fasting at 98 then one hour was 83 then 1.5 hours was 85 then two hours was back to 95. Not sure if there are different Atkins drinks but this one has only 7 carbs and 1 gram of sugar and is 16 ounces.

Another drink I like is the EAS carb advantage at only 5 carbs and also premier protein I think is 5 to 7 carbs but forgot. I drink these drinks all the time because I am addicted to chocolate so I buy only chocolate and I buy them by the case...sams club is reasonable and or Walmart. I also buy MCT oil and put a tablespoon in that when I drink one. Do you take any meds? I hope things keep getting better for you!

I took my fasting BS which was 237. I drank an Atkins Shake, 1 hour after my BS was 265 another hour later 312.
So maybe the shake isn't something I should have. I'm going to test it again today. I skipped my mid morning snack hoping my BS would go down.
I took my BS before lunch and it was 211.
For lunch I had a Starkist lemon pepper chicken pouch, 6 carrots with ranch dip and 4 strawberries. 1 hour later my BS was 223 then an hour after that 171.
Mid afternoon snack was black olives and a Babybel mini cheese. 1 hour later my BS was 174, 1 hour after that it was 114.
I had Chicken with SF bbq sauce and Brussels sprouts for dinner. 1 hour after that my BS was 112 and then 124.
I had some pepperoni and salami for a snack later, with some cream cheese. Before bed my BS was 153 and when I woke up this AM my BS was 193.

So keeping track like this is helping me control it better. I haven't seen numbers as low as 114 and 112 or even 124 since I was much younger. I've started a spreadsheet on Google Docs so I can keep track of this for a couple weeks. The only thing I hate are the finger pricks.

Thanks for reading through this, in advance. Any suggestions, I'm open.

It doesn't matter what I eat in the morning, I start with a low fasting, rise higher after an hour, a little lower after the 2nd hour. I've tested the Atkins shakes, hard boiled eggs, Low carb yogurt, same pattern. Today I had a 176 fasting, 2 hours later 196. All I had was a shake. It was worse but I changed my meds from morning to bedtime. It has helped but there is room for improvement. Tell me more about the EAS. Is it cheaper than Atkins?
