Just got back from my brothers Thanksgiving feast.
I was determined not to over eat but it did not work out that way. Non stop eating, turkey with all the trimmings then 5 deserts with coffee. One of the deserts was an ice cream cake. The dinner rolls were great. Stuffing I had three servings. I ate every desert they had. I lost all control and I think my stomach came out 4 inches. I pigged out big time..... but wow was it good!!
When we got home I made a bee line to the bathroom. I don’t think a human being could eat more than I did today. Totally blew it big time. Now I dont feel good.

Dont feel bad my friend.. you are just starting and you are doing great from where you were a month ago. tomorrow is a new day. today wont hurt you if you try again tomorrow.

dont punish yourself. you are doing way better than you think. you are keeping your health and the way to fix it in your mind. thats half the battle.

keep it up. forget today. Tomorrow is a fresh chance!

Thank you. I mean all this food is staring me in the face and it was just too hard. Everyone else is eating everything so it was tough to say no.

I’ve done 2 fasting glucose tests since I posted results here last. Starting to worry a little bit my last two results were 200 a couple weeks ago I guess and now 180 this am and a 187 a week ago so that’s 3 tests not 2. I guess it’s still mild but the numbers on last 3 are up and I’m getting plenty of exercise right now. Maybe I should double down on Metformin as my next Dr visit in January 10th. Maybe just a fluke?

I find myself using more sugar on my fruit and and salad. Without sugar it’s hard tasting the sweetness and I use sugar on my garden salad. Artificial sugars effect my BPH.

When your doctor prescribed Metformin, he based the dosage on an assumption that you would be eating a specific amount of carbohydrates each day. If you're eating more than that amount -- even on some days and not all of them -- the Metformin can't do what it does to address your blood glucose levels and you'll see higher fasting blood glucose levels than you did earlier.

It may be a little hard to isolate this, however, with just occasional testing. And I'm going to guess that you're not closely tracking your carbohydrate intake (in grams or "exchanges"). More testing would help determine if you're testing after some particularly carb-heavy days or if your trend is slowly increasing fasting blood glucose numbers.

Assuming that the fasting blood glucose numbers are a trend, however, then your choice becomes taking more Met or cutting back on carbs (at least to the level the doctor assumes you are eating). Unfortunately, the trend with taking more Met and not cutting back on carbohydrates or significantly increasing exercise is taking still more Metformin later (only so much you can take of that) and/or taking additional diabetes-treatment drugs (which have more serious side effects and risks than Metformin) or insulin injections. But the choice is yours.

I gotta be honest, I have tried a couple times with the diet and carbs and it’s just to hard. I looked at the dietbetes cookbooks and it’s a giant hassle having to get the ingredients each night and then learning how to cook. I do not like to cook. It doesn’t look like Diabetes meals will fill anyone up. I’ll be hungry an hour later. Basicly no bread and that sucks big time. It seems a diabetics life revolves around the next meal. Eating a cheeseburger without the bun is not realistic. Not being able to eat a breakfast sandwich or bacon and eggs is rediculous. It seems EVERYTHING has a lot of carbs. Having a few slices of pizza is out. I can honestly see why people who have a little high sugar give up on trying all this. I saw a nutritionist and it was ridiculous unreal eating....how many times can a person have lemon flavored water?? Gets real old real fast.
I don’t like oatmeal. The whole diabetes thing sucks as far as I’m concerned.
My doctor never said see a specialist. I’m beginning to think for some people, not all of course, it might be better not to fret about diabetes until it gets worse.
I’d rather be happy eating what I want then miserable trying to follow a carb free diet that’s nothing but a giant hassle. I’m a little concearned though but not concealed enough to panic at this point in time. Does anyone understand what I’m saying?

I understand what you are saying. You can only do what you are committed to doing and you are not committed to doing it so it will never work.

My only hope is that you dont look back and regret any decisions you make. Good luck with all that you do and I hope everything works out.

by the way , you are not reading the right information. I eat when I am hungry and I dont eat when I am not hungry. its never a meal to meal situation. Also fat makes you full and that is the best way of eating. and Oatmeal is not a good thing so what you are reading is not what we would recommend here.

Good luck my friend
