if we wanted to force people into one way of thinking, then we would delete your posts but we simply allow all perspectives and opinions and yours is no less valuable than mine

My 2 cents worth. I don't think Ratter's posts are really valuable to newbies. Case in point...when I became diabetic, I panicked because all I kept thinking about was my Dad who died of complications of diabetes.
Reading Ratter's posts about having "a touch" of diabetes and having an ideal "A1C of 7%" may have influenced my way of thinking while I was in a very vulnerable point in my life.
No one wants to be diabetic. No one wants to give up their favorite foods. You do what you have to do to minimize complications.
Like my friend quotes to me all the time, "Life is too short," but I always respond with, "Yes, but you don't want to live what you have left in misery." She always teases me about being strict with my eating habits.
My Dad's diabetes was back on track after 2 years of eating what he wanted, but the damage was already done. All it took was for him to drop something on his foot, and all hell broke loose. His foot was unable to heal, and one thing led to another. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you never know when you're going to have an accident. Why risk it?
Ok...off my soapbox
