It does to me.

I see myself as being on a journey. I do not expect everything to go the way I plan or even hope it will -- in part because I've learned that the journey is the thing. The opportunities I've had in life were not planned -- maybe not any of them. The people I've met -- the good ones whose company I enjoyed; the others from whom I learned a lot -- I could not have hoped to put them in a list of friends.

One of my favorite quotes is from Robert Pirsig, who wrote "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance":

Quote:
"It's the sides of the mountain which sustain life, not the top."
A person can get stuck for not even attempting a change in direction. Having a destination in mind does not guarantee getting there. But little side trips that make life interesting and educational? I'm all about 'em.

But maybe it is the actual walk instead of the benefits from the walk. Maybe it is the time making my supper instead of the actual benefits from eating the supper. When it comes to fasting, maybe the good stuff is the fast, not the health improvements that come with it.
Maybe its all the stuff you get the opportunity to do because of the benefits of the things you mentioned. Those benefits are not always obvious and may not even be recognized. Unlike material things in life which can be replaced or repaired if lost, broken, stolen, or destroyed, we may not have that luxury with things related to our health.

there is a saying

"before enlightenment, chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood and carry water."

I suppose this can mean many different things to many different people.

Today, I think it means that I need to invest a little thought into making darn sure that I'm enjoying and appreciating everything, everyday.

while this thread is coming to an end, my journey isn't.

Thank you all for helping me.

Currently, as long as I keep my macros up high and I come in at about 2000cal per day, I am losing weight and I'm traveling into uncharted numbers that I havent seen in well over a decade.

Also, my fasting that I returned to last week did NOT allow me to lose weight. So somewhere in the midst of fasting, omad, and cheating.....I dont have a good weightloss system.

I want to figure out exactly why but that can wait. I'm losing weight and making progress and i plan to ride this wave.

Whatever works, NSDad. Sometimes the mystery is that what used to work doesn't quite work anymore...

Darn it, I'm stuck in another oscillation, just like I have been all year, except this time I'm about 10lbs lighter than the past year.
What have I learned? tuna and waxed beans at work is just as ineffective/effective as IF. Too much peanuts is NOT my problem( at least not this time). And, whenever I stop tracking for a week, something sneaks into my diet that screws me up.

I'm pissed again, and I'm pushing back this week LOL. So far, tracking works, and possibly just doing something different than the week before works....I have a lunch packed for work today, mixed veggies and a burger patty. I could shake things up again this evening. I'm thinking of doing another 14 day fast with a long slow walk approach.Weight loss should be inevitable, and I am hoping it resets my mindset and eating habits. if that makes any sense.

Hi! New to this thread and new to the forum but building off of what hftmrock said in the beginning of this thread, my husband and I both lost 50+ pounds each not changing anything we ate (we already eat pretty clean and healthy) and not adding additional exercise (regularly do that too) but by changing up the order in which we ate each meal.

Generally most people skip breakfast, have lunch and then eat a big dinner in the evening. We decided to eat a big breakfast, a light lunch and a small snack like dinner in the evening. Oddly, like hftmrock said about losing weight due to eating more, we lost pounds immediately.

We used to plop down on the sofa in the evenings and probably didn't burn a single calorie so the theory was that if we ate the biggest meal of the day in the morning and the smallest meal in the evening, we'd burn it all off during the day verses letting it create added weight in the evening.

We've been doing this for just shy of a year now and we are both still maintaining our weight really well and neither of us has gained back any of what we lost.

Can't say there is any dietary science behind that but it worked for us!
