Default Omnipod

Hi Everyone, I am new to the forum and I am so glad to be able to reach out to the others that have Type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed at 25 and I have had it for 10 years now and was able to manage it utilizing the insulin pens however in the last year my sugar levels have been getting so stubborn. My diet consist of vegetable and protein low carb. I thought it would get easier as I got older. I am small and petite so I am very sensitive to insulin doses. The doctor suggest I move off the pens and go to the pump because of the smaller more precise increments it can give. I am very nervous about doing this because I guess we’ll change overall can be nerve racking and I don’t want to experience a lot of lows. I was wondering if any of you could give me some feedback about the utilizing the pump and if you feel you have more freedom and a more normal life. Thank you in advance for the feedback.

Hi NancyV, Type 2, not on insulin, so I won't be of any help, just wanted to welcome you to the forum. There are Type 1s here that swear by their pens and pumps and some that swear at them, so there should be someone here that give you all the pros and cons of pumping.

Hi, Nancy. I saw that you duplicated this post in another forum here. In the interest of not diluting responses or confusing other posters with what could be multiple conversations on the same topic, I've removed the new thread. That will help people post their suggestions in just one place. I know a number of posters here are on pumps and have written how they like the immediate response the pump provides. I hope they see this post and respond.

I also would suggest searching existing threads for some of those comments. If you are on the Web version of Diabetes Forum, you can do that by clicking on the word SEARCH on the black bar toward the top of the screen and then typing in words of interest like omnipod or newbie pump or pump lows and clicking the Search Now button. If you're using Diabetes Forum on a tablet or phone, the options probably will look a little different, but the basic steps would be the same.
