Default infusion set issues

When I was first put on a pump I was told to use such and such infusion sets as I was not needle phobic. I took this advice but increasingly over the last 10 years my BGs rise after the set change for up to 10-12 hours. The Endocrinologist suggested I change the set at with evening meal, wait 2 hours and then change the set and then if (when) i wake during the night do a correction if < 13 and an injection if over 13. My pump is not reliable for 12 hours out of 72...Is this good enough?

I was trawling the Medtronic site and realised the infiusion set is recommended for young, lean athletic users....I am none of these so switched to the Mini-med Quick set but am still experiencing similar probs. Any suggestions?
