Default Januvia Side Effects

A friend (T2) of mine takes Januvia and is worried about its side-effects.

I've read up on it and apart from what is given on Google ie rashes, swelling, nausea, dizziness ens, is there anything else anyone here have experienced or know that can cause more severe complications?

All responses are appreciated.

From Jenny Ruhl:
Quote:
  • Inhibits the DPP-4 protease allowing GLP-1 and GIP levels to rise and stimulate insulin secretion and decrease glucagon production.
  • Label warns it may cause pancreatitis, acute renal (kidney) failure, and severe allergic reactions including severe skin rashes.
  • Research found it doubles risk of pancreatitis.
  • Causes strikingly abnormal cell overgrowth in the pancreas and microadenomas (benign glandular tumors that can become cancerous) and neuroendocrine tumors.
  • Cold symptoms, inflamed sinuses, raised blood pressure, constipation.
  • Elevated leucocyte count.
  • DPP-4 inhibition has been called "trigger for prostate cancer", also associated with metastasis in ovarian and lung cancers and melanoma.

Thank you Shanny as always.

Wow that is a mighty lot to be concerned about and a definite no-no.

My T2D coworker had specialists at the local academic hospital scratching their heads over TWO different, simultaneous, skin rashes. AND she had a "grant" paying hundreds a month for her Januvia! No, no, no. By the time they figured it out and switched her to met, I was SO HUGELY relieved to have refused it in favor of insulin!!! She still is running high, eating carbs, and refusing to "needle" herself. So frustrating.

Its difficult Linda, when what they're using isn't working and they refuse to try the lchf, when all it means is a change in diet. If they would just try. One can only help those who want to help themselves.

Why is Januvia still on the market
