Hi
I have had 3 yrs. experience with the Medtronic MiniMed 722 pump. I have been quit pleased with it and find it not difficult to understand and also find quite dependable. It does have a control system programmed into that allow a parent or care giver to have control of the device instead of the diabetic themselves if necessary.

I apologize for not reading closer the specific pump models you referred to. I cannot offer any help.

does your model have the auto shut off if your BGL gets too low? Do you find this is a good feature or do you prefer an alarm?

thats ok! From what i have read they are all pretty similar. The thing that is drawing me to the Medtronic is that auto shut off if BGL is too low. But on the other hand im getting drawn to the Animas cause of the Carb storage book thing and the fact that my son is 3 and his fav colour is green (it comes in a green) which might just help him feel more comfortable with using one....?

Im trying to decide between the metronic minimed and the animas vibe as well. Leaning towards metronic, I have heard that its programme is alot easier to use and its does have alot more handy features, one I like is the fact u can also use a sensor that monitors ur sugar levels as well!! No more finger pricking! Just a lil patch u stick to ur tummy and it reads it continuously and lets u know if ur levels are getting high or low. They are expensive sensors though. On the flip side the animas is waterproof, which is a bonus for kids. As for a database, I use my fitness pal. Its a free app and free online and its an amazing database for carbs calories and sugars etc. it also keeps a record of what u ate. Hope this helps somehow! I will let u know what I decide on how I go :-)

You still have to stick your fingers with the continuous glucose monitor. Mine does a reading every 5 min, but needs calibrated once every 12 hrs. with a finger stick. Some are on up to a 15 min lag time. I alarm all the time in the middle of the night that I'm under 50. Get up and verify with a stick and I'm at 72. I would of over treated if I used the CGM reading. It has alarmed that I'm too high and I was within range with the fingerstick. I would have over bolused. They are a very useful tool to tighten control, but I still have to stick 7-10 times per day. The CGM cannot be used to figure your daily insulin requirements. You will have to stick your finger for that.

Ahh.... Well that does not sound as good as what I thought. How do u rate the metronic pump otherwise?

hi Leis87,
We have decided to get the vibe and we have also had a play with it! It seems great! The CGM is a plus and seems more advanced than the Medtronic (so we have heard). Although we cant use the CGM cause Levi is only 3 and they are not reccommended for kids under 7. Goodluck with your decision
Brooke
