Default Insulin pump insurance.

Hi all

After dropping my Omnipod PDM in a puddle (it was in the OmniPod carrying case) and having it quit working. then finding out that Omnipod will not replace it if it is lost, broken, stolen, dropped...

I am Unable to find insurance to cover lost or dropped insulin pumps. I looked into my renters insurance but they will not cover lost or dropped/broken insulin pumps, only coverage is if it's stolen.

I have searched many forums and all I see are "my'n is covered by my house ins" you sure they cover lost/broken (like dropped in a puddle?)

If you think your pump is covered could you give me the NAME of your insurance Co.

I am in the USA I know England has stand alone insurance for insulin pumps.

PS I took the bateries out put tape over the test strip hole and USB port, placed it in a Jar with rice (Uncooked) and let it sit over night. Next day I cleaned it off put in new batteries reset it and all is well.

Shanny, moon and Patdart like this.

I've read about that rice remedy for other things like cell phones, etc., and I'm so pleased to see that it worked with your PDM. And may I just add . . . damn the insurance companies!

You mentioned you looked into your insurance policy, but did you actually call them and ask if they'd cover it in the future? The reason why I ask this is because with our homeowner's insurance company (which also offers renters insurance), we can specifically tell them if there's extra things we want covered under our policy outside of the norm. They work it into the policy and then charge us the premium for it, which usually isn't too much. We have Nationwide, and they've always been really good with covering whatever we wanted coverage on. You may want to check it out. They may require that you switch your renters insurance to them, though. I have my house, a motorcycle, and two vehicles through them and their prices have always been decent.

I have Nationwide also, listing my Trumpet and cameras on the policy. If that fails, diabetes86, would you like one of us to come by and steal it for you???

Yeah, they've been really great. We have a collection that's in our home listed with them, and various other things. The first thing they asked us is if there's anything special we need to insure.
