Why pump?

I am hoping to get a pump, have an appointment with my endo in a month. I know that he is going to ask me why I think a pump would benefit me (he is very much old school and I will probably have to convince him to just let me try).

I am looking for why you guys said yes to a pump, how it has changed your dia-management and what are the benefits and pitfalls.

Please?

I'm not type 1, but I think a pump would be closer to what happens naturally than MDIs. I would think that there is more of a mostly continuous release of varying amounts of insulin rather than an on and off release. The pump can be programmed when and how much the insulin can vary.

Maybe ask your endo if the body makes two different types of insulin, if not, why treat it with two types instead of one.

Here's a link that gives a bunch of reasons to pump. Moreover, if you are into sports, a pump is far more adaptable than needles.

Keep in mind that unless you are paying for everything yourself, your doctor may be constrained depending on your insulin values. Also, if you have a lot of skin problems while having blood sugar under relative control, doc may refuse the pump because of concerns about infection.
