Article on Insulin Pumps
Interesting article done by the CBC and I believe the Toronto Star called the "Implant Files".
When I was doing research on Insulin Pumps I decided against purchasing and using one. The marketing material for them made it sound like the best thing since insulin but after talking to a few pump users - all of whom went back to injections because of technical issues with their pumps (marketing material never discusses that) - I decided against it, much to the chagrin of my doctor.
Based on this article (Research done in Canada) Insulin Infusion Pumps makes the top ten for technical failure causing injury or death. There's also a few other medical implant devices listed - it seems the government lacks the resources and expertise to do quality assurance testing and the Pharmaceutical Industry can't be trusted to objectively test their own devices.
Jeepers - another story on people losing their lives to defective insulin pumps. I feel so sorry for the people mentioned in the article. I can;t see myself going the pump route any time soon. I'm paranoid enough as it is!
Insulin pumps linked to more reports of injury and death than any other medical device, records show
