- Your experiences with diabetes
- I was diagnosed back in 2006 and I had no clue it was such a serious illness still I started listening to people 'oohing' and 'aahing' to find out Im so young and a type 1 diabetic. I am on insulin 4 times a day, two different types of insulin (humilin R and N) to be precise.
Discovering im diabetic changed my whole life around the moment I learnt I had to inject myself and monitor my sugar levels. I had lotsa people telling me oh dont worry you can control it and live normally or if you dont control it this will happen and that will happen, true in both cases but before I was always care free ate and drank what my heart desired but I also feel people need to understand its easier said than done.
Its not easy to be taking insulin every 6 hours, watching while others stuff their faces with things once you devoured on. I am pretty careless too with my sugar levels. Sometimes I pretend I am not diabetic and eat and drink to my hearts content only to later on realize something is not right.
I hope to meet other people with similar experiences and I hope to learn from them as well. They say diabetics are not patients, they are people. My life has changed more for the negative rather than the positives.
