I hope you and your family had a good weekend. Our driveway was like a skating rink this morning with snow predicted on Tuesday, but the forecasters won't predict how much yet, just say it could be a lot. Fingers crossed for better weather where you are.

About Me

  • About magdalene74
I am a 39 year old (yes really, though im considering staying at this age for a few years lol) full time mother and wife. I have been with my husband for almost 21 years, that anniversary being on March 1, 1993, he was my high school sweetheart, took me to my prom. On June 13, 1995 we were married, so working on 19 years for actual marriage. We have five living children, 10 total. Our oldest, Jeanie, is our foster daughter, she was two weeks from the adoption being final when her bio mom waved permission to wed her boyfriend in front of her on the condition that she got us to drop the charges and abandon the adoption... we could see that in her teenage infatuation there was no way to stop her without loosing her completely so we complied, we got our first grandson out of that deal, they are, predictably on our part, no longer together. She is on her second long term relationship, and we now have a granddaughter as well, whom i was honored with being able to help our daughter through, and saw our lovely Jasmine being born. Then we have our son David, who will be eighteen on March 1st 2014... i am NOT ready for that one, Matthew, who is 15, Mary, who is 9, and Michael, who is 4.. and no, we didn't set out to do the M and M thing... it just worked out that way hehe. AS to my daily life, it is somewhat limited, due to my M. E. a chronic illness that saps your energy and eventually your intelligence, due to scattering concentration and memory, I used to be a mensa candidate, now... meh. I can remember my kids names... sometimes hehehe. My favorite things to do, apart from my children, are sing, and read, not necessarily in that order. I read constantly, and sing whenever there is no book or book facsimile in my hand, and sometimes when there is LOL. My husband is the other love of my life, he knows the kids come first, and they do for him as well, so its all good heh. he rather magnificently puts up with my many defects, health and otherwise, so that among other things, makes him the best of all men. I rather strongly suspect that he is a diabetic himself, he drinks himself into a stupor every day with diet pepsi by the case, and pees by the gallon, constant thirst and cotton mouth, fatigue, and other familiar symptoms bear this out, but infrequent visits to a single idiotic doctor wont confirm. His single fasting BG test was 99 and the doc did not follow up since i was technically "normal", what do you guys think? I will try to keep politics and

    Your experiences with diabetes
I have a medication induced diabetic mother, and type 1.5 diabetics on my fathers side going back at least three generations two based on actual tests, several more based on symptoms and age of onset. All but me were fit and trim at the age of 26 when diagnosis was made. I was first diagnosed as gestational diabetic with my third child, in 2002, but that pregnancy was so fraught with other complications that we didn't even think about it after the pregnancy until i wiped out due to insulin overdose a couple days later. My daughter had a severe metabolic disease and as such we concentrated on her, i never returned to my room for care. I had continuing symptoms afterwards, with fainting spells, weakness, dizziness, severe hunger, thirst, headache, etc, but since my daughter only lived 5 weeks, and we spent all that time concentrating on her illness, then i spent several more weeks in an alcohol and antidepressant induced haze... i guess its no surprise that all attributed my malaise to grief, i thought i had the dates right in my head when i signed up, but i couldn't have, because by the time i got pregnant for my second daughter, Mary, we knew i was diabetic, hypothyroid, M.E., and all the rest, so i must have gotten my diagnosis sometime between losing Joylyn in 2002 and getting pregnant with Mary in 2003, gotta fix that in my profile. Diabetes was remarkably well controlled with Joylyn, even though i started out with about an 8.5 a1c, kept it within a few points of "normal" throughout the pregnancy, and she was born weighing just 6.2lb but they still threw around the term "diabetic embryopathy" when they were trying to figure out what was wrong with her, like i didn't feel bad enough and wasn't blaming myself enough... Zellwegers is genetic though, so nothing we or anyone else could have done.. but that is not an "experience with diabetes", so, back to the time i got pregnant with Mary, my diabetes was horribly out of control, don't know what the a1c was but i was taking shots constantly, my meals were meticulously prepared and forced on my by my nurse mother, i was on constant bedrest and under constant stress because of the threat of the combo of the 1 in 4 chance of another zellwegers baby, the fact that with Joylyn i was RH isoimmunized and she and Mary had to be constantly monitored for hydrocephaly because of that, and i had eclampsia with both of them, doctors constantly telling me i was going to die and so was my baby if i didn't te
