    Your experiences with diabetes
I became diabetic at age 63. Immediately went on a low-carb diet (Atkins Phase I), lost 25 pounds and by the time I saw the diabetes educator my BG was under 140 (she looked a little puzzled but said nothing). I have been eating very low carb/high fat for over 6 years, which keeps my blood sugar low and stable, and has allowed me to lose the excess weight I carried around for too many years.

I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance over a decade ago, along with some food sensitivities, eggs and milk being the worst. I had to make some major dietary changes back then, and found the need to eliminate a lot of carbs for diabetes not too traumatic, as I had "done" the Atkins diet before to treat reactive hypoglycemia. So this latest need to go back to low carb and eliminate the starchy gluten-free stuff wasn't difficult. So I did have immediate initial success in managing my blood sugar, which I've not strayed too far since.
