It's a relief you are type2 and glad you have a doc who will let you try diet and exercise instead of sticking you right on meds. Hope you make every effort to control it 'cause once you get on diabetic meds, it isn't easy to get off. About 37carbs in a hamburger bun, more than some diabetics have all day.
My husband has requested a hamburger for tomorrow. It will be burger, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, bacon and cheese on Healthy Life bread. I will count it as 10 carbs total, for the bread. You can still eat great tasting food, you just have to improvise a little like using low carb bread instead of buns, and mostly have to cook at home.
When I count carbs, I don't count the carbs in veggies that have very few carbs like lettuce, radishes, etc. You can see what the others here think about that, but that's the way I do it and it makes life a whole lot easier.
