Default New t1d Mom here.

Hello been poking around for info and understanding. My 14 year old was diagnosed with T1 on 3-26-12. Counting carbs and paying for them as she calls it. First A1C was 10.1. So far we have been doing well but there is this constant fear inside me. One wrong move and who knows. Well that's all for now. And thanks.

Hello Laurie, welcome aboard! It is good that you are counting carbs. The book "Using Insulin" by John Walsh is a good reference for beginners. If you use an insulin pump, Walsh also wrote the book "Pumping Insulin".

There are some good groups on Facebook for parents of type 1 children. There is also a group there for type 1 teens. Another source is found at:

I was diagnosed in 1945, when I was 6. After 66 years with type 1, I am very healthy. With lots of patience and careful attention, your child can have a long, healthy life. Good luck to both of you!

I have been Type 1 for 73 years. My A1c is 6.2. I pump with the MM 630, and I am using the Dexcom G5.
