Default My Journey with Diabetes

I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in the Year 2007. The early symptoms I observed weakness and thirst. The sugar levels were marginally higher than the thresholds , on the first diagnosis .Fasting : 140 mg/dl and Post breakfast - 190 mg/dl. Since then I was following restricted diet and medication. Three days a week I do 1 Hr exercise. I am taking Glyciphage SR 500 mg now and sugar levels are under control. My HbA1c is 6.7.

I could figure out the main reasons led to my diabetes are a) Tensed Office work b) Lack of exercise and c) Food habits (Junk foods). After diagnosing with my Diabetes ,I try to educate my friends and colleagues and try my level best to change their unhealthy lifestyle.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on taking control and advising others to do the same. Unfortunately, others don't usually listen

Also unfortunately, you are still marginally high on your A1c and still in diabetic numbers, even at most all diabetes association numbers. But you have come to the right place to have the myth of recommended numbers debunked. You'll find out your numbers at diagnosis were more than marginal.

Fortunately in my case, I could at least change the Food habits of my wife and mother. They follow the healthy and Low Carb diet and I am sure that they can either reduce the chance of diabetes to a great extent. One may think that Low carb diet is not tasty , but could find many options in dishes and we tried at our home , e.g: Steamed food , Grill dishes instead of fries. Inclusion of lot of vegetable soups in the diet etc. etc.

As in any religion (way of life), the new zealous convert who is projecting his new faith on others to convince himself that his new faith is justified can be a real PITA to those around him.

Agreed that reducing carbs is healthy for most everyone. Here in the US diets have become both higher in carbs and lower in fat (the first being a symptom of the mania of the later.)

Your A1C is still rather high. What do your blood sugar readings run?

Welcome to the forum!

Welcome! You are doing great by taking charge and helping others. Most of us like to keep our blood glucose always below 140 if possible, using only safe medication if necessary and that usually result in a lower A1C. One the method many use is here “How to Lower Your Blood Sugar”

Blood Sugar 101

This site provides a lot of information about diabetes backed up with a lot of research.

Many use the LCHF diet that you can find more information here:
