Hi all, my story is almost exact as previous post from Xenon. Two months ago, I was getting more and more dehydrated to the point I slept with Gatorade (G2). Then having to pee every 2 hours (including having to get up at night) made me feel worse. I did this about a month thinking I just over did it in the 106 degree heat of North Texas. Boy was I wrong. I searched internet and determined i might be diabetic (its rampant on both sides of my family).. I bought a glucose meter and was in the 350 range.. I then hit a spike at 500 and call my Dr. He did an A1C and came back as 11.5+ (his scale didn't go any higher, so I was effectively off the chart).. now I am on metformin and glipizide twice a day and insulin injections 2-3 times daily...
I joined to find others in the same boat, and possibly real answers to my dumb questions...

Welcome, Bag! Glad you found us. I hope you will go to Blood Sugar 101 and do a lot of reading. It's kind of our 'bible' and has a ton of information! I go there frequently for reference. Good luck! There are no 'dumb' questions so feel free to ask away...

Good luck,

Hi. I hope you will do some reading at the BS 101 website that Pat recommended. It will tell you how to lower your blood sugar. And do have a look at the section titled Diabetes Drugs - Quick Summary. Some diabetic drugs stimulate beta cells in the pancreas to secrete insulin, which causes the pancreas to wear out faster. Glipizide is one such drug.

Many of our members have been able to reduce or even eleminate drugs and/or insulin by eating low carb/high fat. (Carbs are the worst culprit, when it comes to raising blood sugar.) This website LCHF for Beginners will give you an idea of the foods that most of us do and do not eat in order to control our bg. Also, be sure to check out our recipe section, we have some very good cooks here at the forum.

Welcome aboard.
